History
The town of Mooresville is located approximately 30 miles north of Charlotte in Iredell County. Mooresville has gone through many changes throughout its history; from a railroad town to textile center and now to Race City USA. Mooresville was incorporated in 1873 and named for its mayor, John F. Moore. At the time of incorporation 25 families and several others living in within the town limits were the only residents of Mooresville. John Moore was influential in prompting the areas economy by bringing the Atlantic Railroad to town and selling land to groups interested in building a town. With the increase in the cotton trade, Mooresville’s economy quickly grew to embrace textiles. By 1900, Mooresville grew to 1,000 residents living within the town limits.

Today
These days the business sector in Mooresville has broadened, yet it still relies on state-of-the-art textile manufacturing as the foundation of its economy. Now Mooresville is known as Race City USA, to honor the more than 60 motorsports racing teams and North Carolina’s Auto Hall of Fame, which also serves as the town’s official visitor’s center, that are located here.

Lifestyle
Mooresville’s great location between NASCAR tracks has made it popular with racing teams, suppliers and drivers alike. Many racing teams have shops in this area, including those of drivers Rusty Wallace and Ricky Rudd. Mooresville is also home to the Red Bull Racing Team and Penske Racing South. The area has attracted numerous tourists and visitors throughout the years. It is estimated that somewhere between 100,000 and 150,000 people congregate to the area each year to enjoy the many retail shops, antique stores, the new Citizens Center, the Depot Visual Arts Center and other area attractions.

The town of Mooresville is home to Lowe’s Home Improvement Co. headquarters, numerous international manufacturing businesses, medical and governmental services, retail activity and access to Lake Norman, offering recreation and sought-after real estate.

Harbor Cove is a sought after subdivision located on the shores of Lake Norman, close to restaurants, growing shopping centers and more. Parks and Recreation
Mooresville offers nine parks that include seven tennis courts, eight outdoor basketball courts, six lighted baseball fields and a gym for volleyball, badminton and basketball. Mooresville also offers its residents a range of programs for youth and adults in athletics, creative arts and fitness.

Schools
Residents of Mooresville attend schools in the Iredell-Statesville School district. The district consists of 35 schools ranging in grade level from kindergarten to 12th grade. These schools educate more than 20,000 students, making it the 20th largest school district in North Carolina. The average teacher in the Iredell-Statesville School district has 15 years of teaching experience. Student performance places the district among the top 25% of districts in the state.
