Schools
Students living in the Mecklenburg County section of Highland Creek will attend the Highland Creek Elementary School, Ridge Road Middle School and Mallard Creek High School. Highland Creek Elementary is located on the northeast corner of Mecklenburg County, in the heart of Highland Creek. The elementary school offers kindergarten classes up to fifth grade to over 1,100 students. Ridge Road Middle School, located next to Highland Creek Elementary School, opened for the 2009-2010 school year. In its first year the school hosted approximately 970 students, and has the capacity to educate up to 1,200 students. Mallard Creek High School is located just outside the Highland Creek neighborhood. Covering over 351,000 square feet Mallard Creek High School is the largest school in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School district.
Students living the Cabarrus County section of Highland Creek will attend Cox Mill Elementary School, Harris Road Middle School and Cox Mill High School. Cox Mill Elementary is one of the few public elementary schools in North Carolina that received a great schools rating of 9 out of 10. The classes average 16 students for each teacher. Harris Road Middle School also received a great school rating of 9 out of 10. The average class size is 17 students per teacher. Cox Mill High School opened in the fall of 2009 and will graduate its first senior class in June of 2011.
