History
The town of Davidson sits along the eastern shores of Lake Norman in Iredell and Mecklenburg counties. The Town of Davidson officially came into being in 1891. Prior to 1891, the town was incorporated as the Town of Davidson College in 1879, and before that it was referred to as Davidson College. Davidson College, founded by the Presbyterian Church, opened its doors in 1837. At the time the area around Davidson generally consisted of small farms and plantations and remained very rural into the 20th century.
Today
Davidson College continues to have a large influence in the community, however with the beginning of the 2000s the population has seen a change with added retirees and fewer people directly linked to the college.
