History
Concord is located near the center of Cabarrus County, approximately 20 miles northeast of Charlotte. In the late 1700s settlers had a disagreement as to exactly where the County seat of the recently formed Cabarrus County should be located. Settlers finally compromised on the site and the new city of Concord was formed in 1796. The city covers a 26 acre area and was named Concord, meaning harmony, to reflect the nature in which the city was created.
The first cotton mill in Concord was organized in the north end of town in 1839. This started Concord’s cotton industry and the community began to prosper, by 1850 the plant had 70 employees. The railroad just to the west of Concord also helped to push the community forward and continue its growth.
Today
These days, Concord continues to hold true to the small town feeling, while at the same time offering some of the state’s most popular tourist attractions as well as numerous large companies. Concord is the largest city within the Cabarrus County limits. Concord is home to a large Phillip Morris plant, Concord Mills, Charlotte Motor Speedway, several professional race teams (including Hendrick Motorsports, Roush Fenway Racing, Richard Petty Motorsports and Earnhardt Ganassi Racing) and many other prosperous businesses.
Concord Mills is a 1,334,000 square foot mall opened in 1999 offering over 200 stores; including manufacturer and retail outlets, off-price retailers, other unique specialty stores, a food court, NASCAR themed fun park, a 24-screen AMC theatre and North Carolina’s only Bass Pro Shops. Concord Mills is the #1 shopping entertainment destination of the Carolinas and North Carolina's #1 visitor attraction, located on Concord Mills Boulevard just off of I-85, approximately 10 miles north of downtown Charlotte.
Charlotte Motor Speedway includes nearly 2,000 acres located on US Highway 29 in Concord, offering a 1.5 mile quad oval, a 2.25 mile road course, a six-tenths-mile karting layout in the speedway’s infield. The first World 600 was run at the facility on June 19, 1960. In 1992, a lighting system was installed, permitting Charlotte Motor Speedway to be the first modern superspeedway to host night auto racing. Some of the major events held at Charlotte Motor Speedway include three NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events, two NASCAR Nationwide Series races and a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The grandstands have been expanded on various occasions and the current seating capacity is approximately 140,000.

The community offers its residences a variety of amenities; including a nature trail, tennis courts, basketball courts, playground, swimming pool complex and more. Residences in this community include both single family homes and townhomes ranging from the $130s to $500s.
